Behringer TD-3 RD

Monophonic analog synthesizer with sequencer

The Behringer TD-3 is a clone of the famous bass synthesizer Roland TB-303, whose bubbling and screaming sound captivates generations of musicians, DJs and audiences. The most commonly used sound in electronic music requires surprisingly few controls and comes to life with the internal sequencer. An oscillator with two waveforms, the legendary Acid filter, a Decay envelope and the Accent parameter; nothing more is needed to shape the legendary sound. Compared to the original from 1982, the TD-3 has a distortion effect for analog sound generation and a directly accessible randomize function for the sequencer.

History & Hype

Originally, the TB-303, together with the TR-606 drum computer (both from Roland), was designed to replace drums and bass in the solo entertainer context and allow musicians to practice without the presence of band members. However, this target group didn't feel addressed and so the TB-303 ended up with disco house DJs and producers who connected the bass machine to a drum computer, creating countless tracks that were legendary then and now.

In the 90s with the rising techno wave, many producers wanted to own a "303", which was unfortunately only reserved for a few due to the already increased second-hand market prices and the low availability. So numerous manufacturers took care of the matter and released a considerable number of clones in software and hardware. Sometimes the sequencer succeeded, sometimes the sound generation, but many times the result was so unique that it was a lot, but not a 303.

As Fatboy Slim put it: "Everybody needs a 303!"

Sequencer

The cult sequencer provides access to 64 patterns, each up to 16 steps long, and of course the Song Mode. The indispensable and characteristic Accent and Slide commands are of course on board. There is also the possibility to transpose patterns. Thanks to the Randomize function, the TD-3 can be used to create new patterns at the touch of a button, which are a constant source of inspiration and variation. This eliminates the need for the TB-303's battery to play in/out for the same effect.

Distortion!

What would the most famous bass sound in the world be without the addition of a distortion? Behringer has given the TD-3 an extensively adjustable distortion effect, which will delight especially friends of the somewhat heavier sounds.
