The Quad Mid Side from New Systems Instruments performs quadraphonic mid-side processing. From a left front, right front, left rear, and right rear signal, it generates a mid signal and three side signals: left-right, front-rear, and cross or diagonal. The latter signals are then in turn used to generate left front, right front, left rear and right rear. It has normalizations for passing signals and -6 dB lowered center and side signals to avoid clipping. The module is also suitable for stereo mid-side signals when quadraphony is not available. The QMS does much more than just represent the stereo ratio differently. It helps to perceive the room acoustically in a new way and to discover frequency ranges literally in new places, you become active as a listener and are not just a passive observer.
