The Fame PB Burl Top Trans Blue at a glance
With the Fame PB Burl Top, the Czech guitar makers at Fame offer a truly unique P-style bass that packs a punch! While the shape of the neck and body makes for familiar handling, the pickup from the US market leader Seymour Duncan gives the Bass a powerful yet flexible voice that can be used for almost any kind of fun. Furthermore, the Fame PB Burl Top offers some other interesting appointments including genuine Schaller tuners on the headstock.
Alder body with burl poplar top
The visual highlight of the Fame PB really catches the eye. The classic alder body is finished with a two-piece top made of intensively figured poplar. Precise bookmatching gives the top its unique symmetrical look. Despite the rather unusual top for the model, the Fame PB remains true to the original and dispenses with all-round body binding, so the delicately crafted transition to the body remains clearly visible. Naturally, the body has proven ergonomic features such as a wide tummy cut on the back and a practical contour for the right arm.
Roasted maple neck & rosewood fingerboard
The neck, made from thermally treated maple, has a slim C-profile to give the fretting hand a solid base for unerring playing on the 20-fret rosewood fingerboard. The luthiers at Fame paid particular attention to the choice of wood: the neck's growth rings extend from headstock to neck foot, making the neck particularly resistant to weather-related deformation. Thanks to the classic nut width of 41.5 mm and a fretboard radius of 10", the tried-and-tested feeling for the fretting hand is established from the very first note played.
Seymour Duncan SPB-3 Quarter Pound
Like many of its peers, the Fame PB Burl Top draws its enormously flexible sound from a single split coil, which is positioned centrally between the bridge and neck heel. In the case of the PB, this is a Seymour Duncan SPB-3 Quarter Pound split coil, which with its enlarged Alnico-V pole pieces generates additional Attack and extended power thanks to hot coil windings. However, it should not be forgotten that the SPB-3 is also capable of producing softer sounds with additional depth. The PB's electrics remain traditionally passive and provide a volume control and a treble control to tame overly powerful highs.
Fame PB Burl Top Trans Blue - Test report on guitar-player.com
Excerpt:"The Fame PB and JB Burl Top electric basses deliver what they promise: a classic feel with a familiar character and a broad spectrum of potential sounds with clearly recognizable DNA of the historical models. The absolute highlight: the quarter pounder from Seymour Duncan. Rarely have I heard a passive bass with so much oomph that you'd be forgiven for thinking there were active electronics under the hood! Nevertheless, the PB and JB models basically remain true to their genre, so Preci and Jazz fans know exactly what they're getting into here."
