Superbooth 2019 -Novation SUMMIT Sound Only
Expressive hybrid sounds for studio and stage
With the Summit, Novation presents a 16-voice, polyphonic hybrid synthesiser with a 61-key velocity-sensitive keyboard. Based on the popular Peak desktop synthesiser from the same company, the keyboard flagship now boasts 16 voices that can even be split or layered.
Oscillators
A total of three New Oxford oscillators provide the Novation Summit with an impressive sonic foundation. In addition to the four analogue waveforms sine, triangle, sawtooth and square, each oscillator has access to an extensive selection of wavetables. The pitch and waveform of each tone generator can be modulated manually, via LFO or envelope. The FM component and modulator can also be set directly for each oscillator.
Mixer and filters
The mixer provides access to the levels of the three oscillators, the noise generator and the ring modulator. The generated spectrum is then processed by a multimode filter which, in addition to lowpass, bandpass and highpass, offers several other variants, each with a slope of 12 or 24 dB.
Modulation
In addition to velocity and polyphonic aftertouch, the hybrid synthesiser scores with three fully-fledged, loopable ADSR envelopes and four very flexible LFOs. With the exception of LFO 3+4, all modulation sources are permanently assigned to different destinations in the Summit, but can also be used elsewhere or multiple times via entries in the menu.
Effects
The sound of the Novation Summit is rounded off and refined by a rich-sounding distortion, a wonderfully floating and pulsating chorus effect, the clean delay, which can be synchronised to the clock, and a versatile reverb.
Expanded
Many functions that were accessible via menu pages in Peak can be found in Summit as control elements on the user interface. Voice assignment, arpeggiator with new chord function, FM intensity per oscillator and LFOs 3+4 are now easily accessible.
Connections
The Summit makes contact with the outside world via USB and the tried-and-tested MIDI trio. In addition to the main out and headphone output, there is an assignable AUx output. An audio input allows external material to be fed in. Two pedal inputs and a CV input for control voltages provide additional control options.
