The universally popular predecessor (2595) from SPL already impressed with its special sound characteristics during mastering. The further development of the PassEQ sets the bar even higher: The

The Passeq owes its beautiful sound characteristics to the entire passive filter (variable resistor, capacitor and coil). High-quality components, the charging behavior of the capacitors and the saturation behavior of the coils combined result in the desired sound of many mastering engineers.
The relative inertia compared to potentially fast active filters is the reason for the pleasant and very musical sound characteristics. SPL themselves would describe it as "smooth, transparent, silky and with a pithy bass".
Musical sounding curves - that was the aim when building this high-quality mastering eq. And this is exactly what the manufacturer achieved without having to make any compromises: While Pultec EQs from the 50s/60s still had to contend with high background noise and a very limited frequency selection, the Passeq now offers the exact opposite.
With new, specially manufactured coils, the mid range cut band starts working from 200 Hz. This means that the mid-range bands are tuned even more harmoniously for sum processing than on the previous model.

The large, detented output control now allows you to boost or cut up to 10dB to address downstream studio equipment at the perfect working level.
To simplify the recall of all parameters, gain, Q (HF+) and output have been equipped with 41-step detented potentiometers. All other parameters are switched via 12-position switches, making it easy to achieve perfect recall of all settings.
For more convenience when mastering and as with all new SPL mastering devices, the Passeq also has an auto bypass. Naturally, the channels can be deactivated and activated manually using large illuminated buttons, but thanks to the automatic process, you save yourself the step. Even a freely selectable time window can be set.
Here too, improvements have been made compared to its predecessor. Another highlight is the HF+ band, which has been extended to 25 kHz and 35 kHz. A quick test and you won't want to miss this feature again.
Passeq - A REAL sound enhancer.
