Who is a 4/4 classical guitar suitable for?

A 4/4 classical guitar, also known as a full-size or standard-size guitar, is generally played by teenagers and adults who have the physical reach and hand size for a larger instrument. Classical guitarists also prefer the 4/4 format because it is the established standard for lessons, stage use and professional recording. It is therefore suitable both for learning and for advanced playing.

How is a 4/4 classical guitar designed?

Although dimensions can vary slightly depending on the manufacturer and model, the scale length of a classical 4/4 guitar – meaning the vibrating string length from nut to bridge – is usually around 650 mm. The nut width is typically 52 mm, providing enough space for traditional fingerstyle playing. In proportion to this, the body offers a large internal volume, with a width of around 370 to 380 mm and a depth of roughly 90 to 120 mm. Because this guitar size is also widely used in professional contexts, it is available in many versions, including with or without cutaway and with pickups for stage and studio use. There are also affordable beginner guitars in 4/4 format, ideal for adults starting to learn guitar.

What does a 4/4 classical guitar sound like?

Thanks to its large resonance body, a 4/4 classical guitar produces a rich tonal character with a full, resonant sound. The body volume also provides good sound projection, which is especially useful when playing without amplification. This makes it the right choice for players looking for a full-sounding instrument with a broad dynamic range and refined expressive potential.
