The Antelope Discrete 4 Synergy Core is a compact Thunderbolt/USB Audio Interface with advanced Synergy Core processing technology. This built-in DSP allows the Antelope FPGA effect library to be operated from within the interface itself, taking the load off your computer. This means you can run multiple Plug-Ins simultaneously without worrying about latency problems. Regarding Plug-Ins: on board are 36x Synergy Core FX, which were modelled after well-known hardware originals.
Next-Generation Signal Processing
With parallel FPGA calculation capabilities and industry-standard combined DSP performance, Synergy Core takes the load off your internal CPU and processes effects with extremely low latency. You can expect to reduce buffer size, record with a millisecond or less of latency and monitor in real time.

The interface was designed with Antelope's Edge & Verge family of modelling Condenser Microphones in mind. With a host of analogue and digital connectivity options, as well as USB and Thunderbolt ports for computer connectivity, the Discrete 4 Synergy Core offers more possibilities than any other DSP-compatible interface. 4x Microphone inputs, 4x line outputs, a pair of monitor outputs, 4x headphone outputs and S/PDIF are available. Digital expandability is possible with ADAT chains. In addition, you can use a pair of word clock outputs to distribute the highly stable clock signal of the interface in your studio.

ANTELOPE Discrete 4 Synergy CoreI have recently purchased the Discrete 4 Synergy Core as a upgrade to my M-Audio Air 192/2 (A £100 sound card) and was immediately blown away by the Discrete 4 sound. The best way I can describe it is that music sounds more focused and punchy, It was truly wonderful listening to my speakers though this sound card. I have rated this 4 stars and not 5 as the software is clunky. Unfortunately, I have had several crashes whilst trying to use the antelope Launcher. This does not effect any sound but makes overall experience of using the device frustrating at times. Over my years of production, I have installed many programs yet I still have not managed to utilise the edge solo mic emulations (which i was luckily enough to get included with the edge solo mic) because the install process is once again clunky and not well thought out. I happen to have a Slate VMS which by comparison was a dream to install compared to the Edge solo.
in conclusion base on my experience, I think you are going to be hard pressed to find another sound card at this price with this level of sound quality. Just be prepared for a sometime disappointing software experience. FYI, you need to buy a thunderbolt cable if you want to use AFXtoDAW as one is not included in the box.
