The Focusrite Clarett+ 8 Pre offers excellent sound combined with solid build quality and an intuitive design. Thanks to Focusrite’s high quality standards, none of the Clarett+ audio interfaces need to shy away from competitors costing twice as much. Whether it’s the 2 Pre, 4 Pre or 8 Pre – the Clarett+ range impresses with extremely low noise (-129 dBu), an ultra-linear design and very low distortion. The clear, open and transparent sound, which accurately captures every sonic detail of the original signal, is clearly the main focus here. The dynamic range of up to 124 dB at the output is equally impressive and can , of course, be enjoyed on both Mac and PC via a USB 2.0 connection – or better still. Decades of experience in the development of analogue circuits, combined with 24-bit / 192 kHz A/D and D/A conversion, result in an outstanding signal path.
The largest of the three audio interfaces in the Clarett+ series features 18 inputs and 20 outputs, which can be used for a wide variety of applications. Via the eight microphone/line/instrument inputs, the user can record everything from a condenser microphone to a loud pickup without having to worry about distortion. Illuminated level meters help you set the correct input level, whilst the rear-panel ADAT connection provides an additional 8 inputs – allowing the Clarett+ to be combined, for example, with Focusrite’s Clarett OctoPre multi-channel microphone preamp. The two analogue monitor outputs are equipped with anti-thump technology, and there are also two headphone outputs with level control, eight line outputs, a Word Clock output, as well as MIDI in and outand SPDIF I/O.

The eight low-noise, low-distortion Clarett microphone preamps, featuring high headroom and a fully analogue ‘Air’ circuit with impedance selection and relay control, capture vocals, drums and acoustic instruments with impressive clarity. Two JFET instrument inputs allow you to connect suitable devices directly and preserve the natural sound of your guitar – just as if you were plugging into a real amplifier. The connection to your computer is via USB and USB Type-C cables – both included in the package – so nothing stands in the way of direct recording. This brings another advantage: the extremely low latency allows you to use amp simulations and plug-in effects in real time. Added to this is the user-friendly control software for Mac, PC, iPad, iPhone or iPod touch, which is perfect for configuring routing and monitor mixes.
So that you can start letting your creativity run wild straight after unpacking and plugging in, you’ll receive Ableton Live Lite – a popular DAW for all kinds of music production – free of charge! Recording, mixing and editing tools will help you achieve your musical goals!
But that’s not all: benefit from a three-month Splice membership to gain access to hundreds of sounds.
To give you a taste of another DAW, Focusrite includes the Intro+ version of Avid Pro Tools so you can produce hits with that too; this version never expires and remains in your arsenal.
The software package is rounded off by the Hitmaker Expansion, which features AntaresAuto-Tune Access, a Softubemodelling amp, the popular Massive synth from Native Instruments, the Klevgrand Essentials package featuring an intelligent compressor ( Korvpressor ) and ReAmp (an amp and tape simulation), and much more!
