With the Gretsch G6131-MY Malcolm Young Signature Jet, Gretsch pays tribute to probably the greatest rhythm guitarist of Rock 'n' Roll and recreates the lovingly modified "Beast" that has been AC/DC's rhythmic backbone for decades. Accordingly, authentic details from the classic "DIY" pickup modifications to the remote finish of the original can be found on this reissue. Directly in front of the Adjusto-Matic Steg a Power'Tron humbucker wound by TV Jones is used, which reproduces the pithy rhythm sound with barking attack, while the mahogany neck in standard 'U' profile conjures up the classic Gretsch feeling. As a loving recreation of the "Beast", Gretsch honors none other than AC/DCs Malcolm Young with the G6131-MY.
The add-on parts of the G6131-MY Malcolm Young are composed of authentic vintage parts from the sixties on the one hand, and Malcolm's modifications accumulated over time on the other. A Gretsch Adjusto-Matic bridge is used for the bridge, while a Vintage Gretsch '60s Jet Tailpiece acts as tailpiece. The sound of Malcolm's TV Jones Power'Tron was based on a single humbucker on the bridge, which is why the two humbucker slots remain free in the middle and neck position as in the original. The result is the distinctive crunch sound with defined attack that made the instrument world famous.
The construction of the Gretsch G6131-MY follows the Hollowbody construction method and consists of a hollow milled mahogany body, which is finished with a maple top. The glued mahogany neck with its standard U profile offers a powerful shaping with lots of wood behind the neck for a good hand rest for classic chord playing. Last but not least, the Gretsch G6131-MY is equipped with an authentic Thin-Skin Semi-Gloss Finish to evoke the coveted feeling of an instrument played over the decades on major world stages.
