Fixate:Midrange is a specialised midrange EQ that tackles the very area where most problems arise in many productions: the midrange. Muddy, thin, boomy, nasal elements, harshness or an unbalanced spectrum can quickly make mixes sound tiring, cheap or unfocused. This is precisely where the plug-in comes in with a clear approach: analyse, correct, balance. Instead of tedious troubleshooting, you get a tool that quickly and musically addresses the typical problem areas in the mix’s most important frequency range.
At the heart of Fixate:Midrange are six intelligent dynamic processors, each dedicated to one of the most common midrange issues. Each band is processed on a signal-dependent basis and only intervenes when a problem is actually detected. This makes the processing significantly more musical than rigid EQ corrections and helps to clean up the midrange without making the mix sound lifeless . This is a major advantage, particularly for vocals, guitars, keyboards, dialogue or complete mixes.
Automatic Analyse-and-Fix workflow
A key feature is the one-button Analyse and FIX workflow. The plug-in analyses the signal, identifies problematic resonances and spectral imbalances, and immediately suggests a suitable correction. This makes Fixate:Midrange not only a mixing tool for experienced engineers, but also a very fast aid for producers, creators and mastering setups where decisions need to be made efficiently.
Six controls, six typical problem areas
The interface has been deliberately designed to be straightforward: Mud, Thinness, Honk, Nasalness, Harshness and Spectral Imbalance each have their own control. This allows for targeted intervention without any detours. This is particularly helpful when a mix works in principle but doesn’t open up properly in the midrange, suffers from poor speech intelligibility or becomes unpleasant at higher volumes.
Also for vocals, guitars, dialogue and individual tracks
Although Fixate:Midrange was developed for the master bus, the plug-in is expressly not limited to sum processing. It can equally be applied to vocals, guitars, instrument buses, dialogue tracks or other individual sources. With the right profiles, processing can be tailored to the specific material, making the plug-in highly versatile for use in both mixing and post-production.
Reference profiles and trainable target curves
A key feature is the ability to work with profiles. You can use existing reference profiles for mastering, vocals, guitar, piano, drums, keys and other applications, or train your own target profiles from reference material. This allows you not only to correct the spectral balance, but also to specifically tailor it to a desired sound or a particular production aesthetic.
Technically, Fixate:Midrange operates using a model based on human perception. The midrange is divided into critical bands – specifically those frequency ranges in which the ear is particularly sensitive to relationships, resonances and masking effects. This is one of the reasons why the plug-in often identifies problems in areas where traditional analysers may show activity but fail to provide genuinely musical guidance. The result is processing that feels more natural and often achieves the desired outcome more quickly in practice .
