Introducing RANDOM8: 8 Looping Random Voltages in 8HP
Clearly defined coincidences
The Random8, which is the result of a collaboration between Befaco and Mylar Melodies generates random voltages on 8 channels. Each of the eight channels can have individual settings or each channel can do more or less the same thing. To trigger the voltages, a gate or clock signal at input 1 is sufficient to animate all channels. The special feature of this random generator is that it always memorises the last 32 voltage changes (steps) per channel. These 32 steps can be shortened to up to one step as a loop phrase or the track can continue to run continuously. A quantiser with 16 options can be switched on for each channel, allowing you to work much more musically when combining the module with several oscillators.
The slide function can be used to realise smoothed, LFO-like voltage curves and create acid lines more easily when used to control an oscillator. Offset extends the voltage range right up to clipping the voltages. On the one hand, this makes the generated voltages less clean, and on the other hand it benefits modulations in the audio range, as more irregularities are introduced. By reducing the probability per channel, the voltage changes can be significantly reduced. This is particularly helpful if you are working with fast triggers but require fewer voltage changes. The extensive equipment is rounded off by eight memory locations for the entire module status, a flat menu system with emphatically simple operation, clear LED colours that are very helpful for visualisation
