MXR M288 Bass Octave Deluxe video:
Analog Bass Octaver with two octave voicings and mid boost
The MXR M288 Bass Octave Deluxe is an extremely versatile bass octave with a juicy analog sound. Thanks to two sub-octaves with different voicings, the effect pedal delivers multi-faceted Bass sounds for almost any application. The Constant Headroom Technology guarantees a clean Tracking even on the low strings and a noise-free performance.
Growl and Girth
At the heart of MXR's Bass Octave Deluxe are two independent sub-octaves with different voicing. The Growl named octave stands for a throaty sound with emphasis on the mids. Girth, on the other hand, has a smooth and deep sound character. Thanks to the controls for Growl, Girth and Dry, both sub-octaves and the clean signal can be mixed in any ratio.
Mid-Boost
In addition, the M288 Bass Octave Deluxe from MXR has a mid-boost ready, which gives the sound more bite and assertiveness if desired. In addition to switchable center frequencies at 400 Hz or 850 Hz, the level of the boost can be adjusted between +4 dB and + 14 dB.

My first impression was the compact size and solid build of this guitar effects pedal. Although the tone and "growl" are adjustable it is also possible to bring in a rich deep base with high and mid-range tones unchanged. I love the simple controls and there is no unwanted noise through the amp in operation. A great little product.

It's a competent bass octave pedal. I would have been happier to have received some instructions giving explanations as to what 'Girth' and 'Growl' symobolized - being two of the controls but instead just got a simple set up instruction and a load of multilingual stuff about safety/warranty etc. So I went on YouTube to get an overview and there were certainly a couple of good demos - for which I'm grateful. One of these guys mentioned a manufacturer's instruction than included a 'Pino' setting - the pedal is used by Pino Palladino. But I did not have such guidance with my model.

Using in conjunction with a Submarine pick up on an acoustic guitar. Isolating the 5th and 6th string and feeding into the Bass Octave to a bass cab whilst the remaining string go as normal to an AER acoustic amp. This simulates a bass guitar on the lower strings and a regular acoustic on the remaining four. Work a treat!
