The Seymour Duncan SA-6 Acoustic Guitar Pickups System is a world-renowned acoustic pickup system ideal for both 6 and 12 strong acoustic guitars. This active magnetic soundhole pickup features a built-in omnidirectional microphone, allowing you to find your optimal blend of mic and pickup, perfectly capturing the natural tone and warmth of your instrument.
The Seymour Duncan Mag Mic combines a high-quality hum-cancelling Stack magnetic pickup with an omni-directional condenser mic—all in one unit. This clever design blends the natural warmth with the full-spectrum detail of your instrument.
The magnetic pickup captures the strings and adds warmth while the omni-directional condenser mic conveys the instrument's resonance, airiness, and unique character. Together they provide crystal clear acoustic tone that sounds just like your guitar, but at the volume you need it.
The Mag Mic's magnetic pickup is always on. A convenient volume control allows you to blend in as much of the microphone as you want. The Mag Mic can also handle loud volumes. It can even take on overdrive and intentional feedback.
The main features of the Seymour Duncan SA-6 Acoustic Guitar Pickups System include:
I don’t normally like magnetic pickups but this sounds great! I love that it also sounds great plugged into a tube amp (with the mic rolled off).
Previously I have had a Baggs M1A and a Fishman Sonotone. Both were fine, but for me the Baggs was 'too magnetic' and I'm not a great fan of the piezo on the Fishman - a bit like the porridge being too hot or too cold in the Goldilocks story.
I haven't had this Seymour Duncan Mag Mic pickup for long - recently fitted it to my Eastman acoustic and I'm really pleased with the sound: I think the combination of a magnetic soundhole pickup with variable built-in condenser mic gives me exactly the tonal possibilities I want. Makes it just the right temperature of porridge Goldilocks went for!
I would have given the Mag Mic all 5 stars but I knocked one star off on craftsmanship because I think the lead should be removeable at the pickup, rather like the Baggs M1A, and I knocked off one star on the Price/Performance because I think the Mag Mic is a bit too expensive - but then the pound/dollar factor doesn't help UK buyers - but ultimately it is worth the money for the sound possibilities it provides the player with. Otherwise it would have been 5 stars.
