For proper operation, both input and output jacks of both sub-units must be wired; in A-B mode, the signal runs from input 1 to output 2 and vice versa.

Black Lion Audio presents with the Black Lion Audio B172A two popular compressor circuits in one housing: On the left is a unit of the Seventeen FET compressor. In terms of operation and function, the Seventeen is based on the Urei 1176, but is not a replica of this classic, but instead convinces with a much more open, treble-emphasized, but also powerful sound. On the right side there is an opto compressor based on the Teletronix LA-2A. Here Black Lion Audio has specially reissued the photocell of the LA-2A; because the original is still produced, but no longer meets legal standards and can only be marketed as a replacement part, so the manufacturers are forced to break new ground here. The company from Chicago has solved this task with bravura and at the same time put its own stamp on the core element of the optical circuit.

Both compressors have their own inputs and outputs, but can also be linked internally and swapped in sequence. A switch on the front is provided for this purpose. In addition, both can be switched separately to bypass, which was not possible with the big models. If you own two B172As, the two units can be linked together via link jacks to form a stereo pair.
