With the Softube Console 1 Compact, Softube brings its award-winning mixing concept to a significantly more compact format. The control interface is designed for producers, engineers and musicians who want to mix faster, more intuitively and with greater musicality, without constantly having to contend with a mouse and screen. Its key selling point is the combination of a full studio feel, precise tactile control and a small footprint, which works perfectly even in tighter setups.
The Console 1 Compact brings the familiar one-to-one workflow concept of the Console 1 series into a space-saving format. Instead of menus and nested control paths, you get direct access to the most important sections of a channel strip. These include Input, Preamps, Tape, Filter, Shape, EQ, Compression and Output Drive. This not only makes your work faster, but often more musical too, as your hands once again play a greater part in the mixing process.
A key feature of the Console 1 Compact is its touch-sensitive Analog Feel potentiometers. Not only do they feel high-quality, but they also provide exactly the kind of substantial and precise feedback one would otherwise expect from expensive outboard equipment. Softube has deliberately focused here on an immersive user experience that makes mixing feel more tangible again.
The casing is made from robust anodised aluminium and boasts the same high-quality material finish found on the larger Console 1 models. Combined with its Scandinavian design and Nordic Night Sky finish, the Compact doesn’t feel like a stripped-down controller, but rather a serious studio tool.
The integrated high-resolution Smart Display shows you the most important parameters and changes directly. This keeps your focus on the sound rather than on tiny screen windows in the DAW. This is a real advantage, especially when working quickly.
Switching quickly between EQ and Dynamics allows you to select editing areas directly. This saves time and keeps the workflow compact, logical and straightforward.
Bright RGB LEDs, which change colour in line with the current screen display, ensure you always know which section you’re currently controlling. It may sound like a minor detail, but it makes a huge difference in day-to-day use.
The Console 1 Compact works with all major DAWs without the need for time-consuming mapping. According to Softube, supported applications include Logic, Ableton Live, Cubase, Pro Tools, LUNA, Reaper, FL Studio, Nuendo, Bitwig Studio, Cakewalk and Samplitude. This is precisely what makes the controller so practical for everyday use, as it’s designed to be used straight away rather than requiring lengthy set-up.
With Cubase, the Console 1 even offers particularly deep integration, allowing direct access to Cubase’s standard EQs and compressors. This is a great advantage for anyone who wants to work as closely as possible with their DAW whilst still enjoying a genuine hardware feel.

Those wishing to delve even deeper can expand the Compact with additional Softube plug-ins, channel strips and hardware emulations. It also supports numerous Console 1 Ready plug-ins from Plugin Alliance, Brainworx, FabFilter, UAD and other manufacturers. This allows you to build your own console in a modular way and adapt it to your personal workflow.
According to Softube, the Console 1 Compact offers the capabilities of the Channel Mk III, whilst taking up only about half the space. This makes it suitable not only as a central mixing tool in the studio, but also as a mobile solution for producers who want to take their setup with them flexibly. Simply pack it up, plug it back in and carry on working.
Softube also positions the Compact as an exciting addition to Flow Studio. This allows rough creative decisions to be made quickly using Flow Studio, whilst the Compact takes over later for fine-tuning and precise mixing. This opens up interesting combinations for modern, hybrid production workflows.
