The JBL 104 Reference Monitors (Pair) is a compact multi-media speaker set with a coaxial design and is perfect for musicians, podcasters, video producers, studios or simply for enjoying music. Its 4.5" woofer and .75" tweeter, combined with high quality components, provide a rich, detailed sound that makes the active desktop speakers ideal for a variety of applications. Despite the absence of a subwoofer, bass is accurately reflected up to 60Hz, even at its 104dB SPL. Apropos volume: an integrated 60W Class-D amp provides clean amplification over the entire frequency range. In addition, there is a wide dispersion pattern and thus a larger sweet spot.
On the front, the 104 offers a volume control as well as an Aux-In and headphone output, while the rear provides balanced jack inputs and an RCA Stereo In.

Great little monitors and a good price for my laptop. However be careful when ordering the unit came supplied with only 2 pin Euro plug and it didn't come with a UK adaptor. I found a spare mains lead and works fine.
Stylish, great build and a reliable name, these are great speakers with a good balance across its range. Some people have said it is a bit muddy around lower-mid range and I would probably agree, but by much. The sound is really very good...but here's the caveat - there is a very tight sweet spot to get the excellent sound, but you don't need to move very far for the sound to begin to shift. If you are going to stay in pretty much the same position while you listen then they are great. If you are going to be moving around from one place to another then you are better looking for something else. I think the price point gives it away.
I've been setting up a (very) basic acoustic guitarist/singer/songwriter recording 'studio' in my office. I wasn't going to buy monitor speakers, just rely on headphones, but these had great 'budget price point' reviews when they were twice the price, so seemed too good an opportunity to miss at this price.
Easily set up with a Saffire Pro 24 DSP and my iMac. Sound great with very little expense. They seem perfect for me as a beginner; whether I'll out grow them, who knows, at the moment I'm very impressed for the money.
