The Epiphone Casino Coupe is the agile sister of the legendary Casino and is based on the body dimensions of the Gibson ES-339 . With a Hollowbody body made of maple laminate and a coveted slim 1960 Slim Taper D mahogany neck, it evokes Casino Coupe the classic feeling in all registers and a striking sound of two P-90 pickups with Alnico V magnets in neck and bridge position. Last but not least, solid LockTone Hardware with Locking function provides a resonant sound transfer into the body of the Casino Coupe .
Besides the popular Single coils and the juicy sounding humbuckers, the P90 Pickup exists as a healthy mixture of both worlds. The single coil pickup with classic "Dog Ear" tabs produces a powerful and warm sound with a clear treble note, reminiscent of the early days of electrically amplified guitars. Both pickups in neck and bridge position have separate volume and tone controls.
This Casino Coupe comes with solid Hardware -equipment in the form of a flexibly adjustable Tune -o-matic bridge from LockTone. The innovative bridge is equipped with an automatic locking system which holds the bridge by the bolt and thus ensures not only a more direct resonance transmission, but also a safe string change for body and finish. Behind it is a classic Coupe Trapeze tailpiece in the style of traditional Jazz guitars.
I purchased this beautiful guitar for my 14 year old granddaughter as she has recently become interested in learning to play.
Up to now she has been practising with her father using either a Fender strat copy or a 335 copy. She does not like the Strat, as it cannot be used without an amplifier, and the 335 was heavy for her.
The answer came in the form of the Casino Coupe. This has a completely hollow body, which makes it lighter than the solid block 335 and is slightly smaller than the original Casino.
It plays well with a good action and provides a good sound without the need for an amplifier. All boxes ticked and she is delighted with it. No excuses now; practice, practise, practice!
