Phonos is a preamplifier for record players with moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) pickup systems. The purpose of RIAA equalization, which is a form of pre-emphasis during recording (cutting) and de-emphasis during output, is to extend the recording time by reducing the groove width, to improve the sound quality and to reduce the risk of damage to the grooves during playback. During recording, the low frequencies are reduced and the high frequencies are boosted, while the exact opposite happens during output. The result is a linear frequency response where high frequency noise such as hiss and clicks caused by the playback medium are reduced.
VOLTAiR technology:
The 120V technology works with a direct voltage of 120 volts. This is twice the operating voltage of the best discrete operational amplifiers and four times that of IC-based solid-state operational amplifiers. The 120V technology achieves exceptional technical specifications and sonic advantages. Technically, in terms of dynamic range, signal-to-noise ratio and clipping resistance. In terms of sound, in terms of richness of detail and an absolutely relaxed listening experience.
