Gibson 1936 Advanced Jumbo VS at a glance

With this replica of the round-shoulder classic Advanced Jumbo, the traditional American manufacturer Gibson completes its Historic Collection from its famous Custom Shop in Montana. The instrument is constructed using the materials used in 1936 and features detailed appointments. A thermo treatment of the wood gives the impression that the instrument has been played for decades and turns it into a masterpiece of guitar making. A sturdy shaped case and a Gibson accessory kit round off the package perfectly.

An Adirondack spruce top for a powerful sound development.

A top made from Adirondack spruce (red spruce)

The coarse-grained North American spruce from the Adirondack Mountains was already used in the early 20th century for the construction of the finest musical instruments due to its high quality and unique sound. Easily recognizable by its even structure and extremely fast response, the wood produces a very powerful and clear sound that is particularly expressive in the mid and treble frequencies. The fast and effortless development of every single note also makes the Advanced Jumbo attractive for fingerstyle and blues guitarists, as the notes last particularly long and fade out gently in the overtones thanks to the thermal treatment of the wood, scalloped X-bracing, and a wafer-thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish. A vintage sunburst finish and a mackerel teardrop pickguard adorn the top and give the impression that this particularly successful instrument is a true antique.

Fine rosewood for back and sides.

Back and sides made from the finest rosewood

Even then, the highly sought-after rosewood was used for the back and sides. Thanks to its coarse structure, it produces an overall powerful and balanced sound for which the manufacturer Gibson is still known worldwide today. The thin finish and the light construction of the large round-shoulder body also play a fundamental role, as they promote strong vibration behavior and enrich the sound image with transparency and dynamics. The fine cream-colored bindings accentuate the multi-faceted grain of the dark tropical wood and create an exciting overall appearance that is hard to beat in terms of elegance and aesthetics.

A mahogany neck with Historic AJ profile and rosewood fingerboard.

A round mahogany neck with an eye-catching fingerboard

A comfortable playing experience is ensured by a mahogany neck with a Historic "AJ" profile, which allows easy fingering without great effort and generous access to all 19 frets. Thanks to a generous nut width of 44.45 mm, the fingerboard offers enough space to allow the player to perform even difficult fingerings. The strikingly grained rosewood fingerboard is decorated with precious mother-of-pearl diamonds and arrows inlays, which mark the most important frets and emphasize the value of the material with their bright appearance. A bone saddle and a corresponding bridge inlay ensure clean intonation over the entire 648 mm scale length.

Accessories and care

Of course, a treasure of this kind also needs the best accessories for sustainable care. That is why not only a dimensionally stable case with a purple interior but also a Gibson accessory kit is included in the scope of delivery. The Advanced Jumbo is strung with a Gibson string set in a 0.012" to 0.053" gauge, whose strings are very soft to the touch and pleasant to play. Due to the thin nature of the varnish, it is advisable to polish the instrument with the optional Gibson polish and use it sparingly.
