Anyone who wants to create scores and produce music professionally and intuitively will quickly appreciate the Finale v27 software solution from Makemusic! The 27th version is bursting with features and also offers several innovations and updates that once again improve the workflow and help you compose. Whether you are a professional or a beginner - produce music without compromise and benefit from a high degree of control and flexibility so that your ideas can be realised quickly.
Getting started in the world of Finale is particularly easy, so that beginners can quickly find their way around. With various video tutorials, you can quickly get useful tips on how to set up new scores or change music fonts, etc.
Do you prefer to compose using a MIDI keyboard or enter your music using a computer mouse or keyboard? Neither is a problem and both are standard features of Finale! Of course, it is also possible to import MIDI or MusicXML files.
Anyone who has ever entered a score in the music programme (e.g. lyrics, guitar tabs, chord symbols etc.) will have quickly noticed how tedious the work is. Finale offers a solution to this and works with automation and an innovative workflow to make your work much easier. Legato slurs/articulations, for example, are intelligently and automatically adapted to the conditions of the notation. Professional percussion notations can be easily created without prior knowledge and without having to worry about whether they are displayed correctly to the drummer. Even the translation of a chorale into Korean is possible thanks to the Unicode support.
Thanks to Finale'swell thought-out tools , every step is kept simple to help you reach your goal faster. Be it selection tools, multi-page editing, cut, copy & paste or management, search and replace - Finale is fully equipped, no matter what the software is fed with.
Also on board is a wide range of virtual instruments as well as innovative tools and functions that make your ideas sound alive. It is also possible to integrate external sound libraries for even more flexibility. The following playlist gives you a taster of the Garritan sounds included in the scope of delivery.
While some of the functions mentioned were already available in previous versions and only rudimentarily show what Finale is capable of, v27 introduces even more useful features. Here is a brief overview

Finale v27 lets you quickly and easily share notated documents with friends and clients. Without having to leave the application, you can now upload documents and share them privately or publicly. The recipients of the sheet music do not need Finale, but still get extensive functions for listening, practising, editing and printing your sheet music - simply in the Internet browser on a Mac, Windows PC, Chromebook or iPad!
Thanks to the Standard Music Font Layout, musical symbols can be organised in a uniform arrangement so that music fonts are displayed correctly in any notation application that supports this. But that's not all, updated, SMuFL-compatible versions of the MakeMusic fonts have been added for Finale to ensure maximum compatibility. The following illustration gives you a small first impression and shows only a small selection of the more than 2700 symbols that the new SMuFL-compatible font "Finale Maestro" contains.
No matter which instruments you have chosen, the revised instrument list ensures that the notation looks good and professional right from the start - and that you hear the right sounds when you play a document! Furthermore, the list of instruments has been expanded when a new document is started or an existing one is edited. The developers have taken customer feedback to heart and have also added frequently requested instruments such as the accordion in the simple treble clef system and low brass instruments in Swiss notation.
In addition, much attention has been paid to the diverse world of percussion: around 150 new and revised layouts in all document styles and templates mean that each instrument selected in the Document Wizard starts with a layout that contains the correct noteheads in a logical place on the staff and plays with an appropriate sound.
The standard exchange format for music notation applications (MusicXML) is used to share digital sheet music. With the 4.0 version, you have even more control when sharing your compositions, as even more information than ever before can now be recorded in a file. This means they can be transferred between practically any modern music software. Important information such as bending and guitar bending symbols are retained in full detail, while the overall accuracy of the score display allows for fewer errors during import and export. The linked part extracts in compressed files are also supported in a standardised way that can be used by all applications.
The developers have invested a lot of time in improvements to ensure that daily work with Finale runs smoothly. Even if they are not all new features, they contribute to creating a well-rounded overall picture that helps you in your work and does not put any obstacles in your way. Here is a brief selection:
