With the ADI-2 Pro EX, RME presents the next generation of its versatile reference converter. The device combines AD/DA converter, USB audio interface, headphone amplifier and format converter in a 9.5" format. Based on the proven concept of the ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition, the EX version has been further developed in several areas and offers a newly designed housing, a higher output power at the headphone outputs and additional protection circuits for even more reliable operation.

High-quality analogue and digital conversion is at the heart of the ADI-2 Pro EX. Equipped with an AK5574 analogue-to-digital converter and an AK4493 digital-to-analogue converter, the system processes high-resolution PCM audio at up to 768 kHz and DSD signals up to DSD256. For precise clock generation and maximum signal integrity, RME relies on its proprietary SteadyClock FS technology, which effectively reduces jitter and supports stable audio playback.
The precise signal processing ensures transparent playback and makes the ADI-2 Pro EX a suitable control centre for recording, mixing, mastering and critical monitoring. At the same time, the device is suitable as a high-quality AD/DA front end for professional measurement systems and analysis applications.
The ADI-2 Pro EX not only functions as a high-quality USB audio interface, but also acts as a flexible multi-format converter for AES, SPDIF and ADAT. The integrated monitoring function facilitates the monitoring of various digital sources and simplifies complex signal paths in the studio.
As a computer interface, both a stereo mode with 2 inputs and 2 outputs and a multi-channel mode with up to 6 inputs and 8 outputs are available. Thanks to Class Compliant USB support, the device can be connected directly to compatible iOS devices. Under Windows, the proven RME drivers with WDM and ASIO support are used, while macOS is supported without additional driver adaptations.

The ADI-2 Pro EX offers numerous connection options for analogue and digital applications. Two servo-balanced analogue inputs are available via XLR/jack combo sockets. Separate balanced and unbalanced analogue outputs are available for the output.
The connection panel is supplemented by AES, coaxial SPDIF, optical SPDIF and ADAT-compatible inputs and outputs. This allows the converter to be flexibly integrated into existing studio setups and used as a central interface between digital and analogue devices.
Monitoring plays a crucial role for musicians, producers and mastering engineers. The ADI-2 Pro EX has two powerful Extreme Power headphone outputs, whose output power has been further increased compared to the previous model. This applies to both unbalanced and balanced operation.
Special operating modes for different power requirements ensure that both sensitive studio headphones and low-impedance high-end models can be optimally operated. The result is a controlled reproduction with high detail resolution and generous power reserves.
For balanced operation, RME uses its own Advanced Balanced mode. This enables a direct balanced signal path from the DAC to the headphones and supports particularly consistent signal transmission.
In addition to conversion, the ADI-2 Pro EX offers numerous tools for customising the monitoring. These include parametric 5-band equalisers, bass and treble control with quick access, crossfeed functions, loudness filters and various AD and DA filter characteristics.
Professional functions such as M/S processing, stereo width control, phase inversion and freely storable presets are also available. This allows the device to be flexibly adapted to different monitoring situations and production environments.
The high-resolution IPS display is not only convenient to use, but also provides extensive analysis tools. Particularly noteworthy is the integrated Spectral Analyzer, which visualises audio signals in real time and supports the assessment of mixes or recordings.
Additional status displays, warning messages and operating aids provide a quick overview of all important parameters. The ADI-2 Pro EX also has an AutoDark mode, which automatically switches off the illumination of the display, buttons and rotary encoders to ensure a working environment that is as free of interference as possible.
The hardware of the ADI-2 Pro EX has also been consistently designed to meet professional requirements. The larger housing with integrated ventilation improves the cooling performance and is visually orientated towards the design of the ADI-2/4 Pro. Chrome feet in the style of the ADI-2 DAC FS round off the desktop look.
The lockable USB C port ensures a secure connection, while the integrated trigger output enables convenient control of external amplifiers or other devices. Compatible power amplifiers can be automatically switched on and off together with the device via the 12 V trigger signal.
New protection circuits against direct current, reverse polarity and overvoltage further increase operational safety. The supplied NT RME 13 universal power supply can be used worldwide, has a lockable connection and reduces the risk of earth loops thanks to its partial earthing.
Whether on the studio desk or permanently installed in the rack: Thanks to its compatibility with RM19 III rackmount solutions, the ADI-2 Pro EX adapts easily to different working environments and integrates flexibly into existing setups.
