The Avantone ACTIVE MIXCUBE is designed to be high resolution,full-range powered mini-reference monitors for fixed or remotelocations. The secondary engineering facet was to create a timelessdesign that compliments a single full range transducer.

Studios primarily use 2-way and 3-way large monitors designed torepresent a wide range reference viewpoint at higher listeninglevels. However, in the newly developing age of High DefinitionAudio, there is still a need to hear what your mix will sound likewhen played back over small “bass-challenged” systems such astelevisions, clock radios, computers, car stereos, ipod dockingstations, etc. It is important to make mixing judgments basedpartially on listening to reference monitors that will not imparttonal anomalies caused by crossovers or inferior full rangedrivers.

Particular attention is always paid to the critical mid-rangevocal/guitar/keyboard areas. This is where having a full-rangemonitor without a crossover is truly revealing.

More than twelve months of R&D, comparative listening andtweaking went into the voicing of the AVANTONE Active MixCubes. Theresult is a very smooth sounding, full range upgrade from those oldfamiliar 5C Sound Cubes engineers were so fond of in the1980’s-1990’s. Listening tests reveal that the MixCubes have asmoother midrange, more accurate, transparent top end response withextended bass while maintaining the basic characteristics of thoseoriginal little cubes Cabinet Design.

The AVANTONE Active MixCubes are constructed of non-layered,high rigidity MDF board due to its natural low-resonancecharacteristics. All cabinet edges are radiused with an elegantpolyurethane high gloss “Butter-Cream” finish. 7mm thick neoprenepad embedded into the base of the cabinet serves as askid-resistant acoustic isolator. For creative mounting situations,there is a useful, industry standard 5/8 inch -27 mic stand mountin the base. The paper cone, (chosen for its musical character) wascustom designed utilizing the latest in FEA modeling and“old-school” speaker design artistry. The finest New Zealand pulpmaterial is blended with mica fibers for rigidity andlongevity.

The cloth surround material is made in Japan and has uniquedamping characteristics, enabling a predictable compliance over thelifespan of the driver. The motor structure is made of certified1008 low carbon steel by Sumitomo. The magnets are Y- 40 GRADE(MIL-SPEC) yielding a 43oz. High-power/low-distortion motorstructure. Avantone's proprietary 5.25 inch die-cast aluminum framesupports the driver/cone minimizing mechanical transfers. The outermounting face of the aluminum frame is polished for an elegantappearance. The Active MixCubes each contain a separate 35-wattClass A/B amplifier with cooling handled by Convection/HeatSink-Aluminum Fins.
