With the BM-15M Resonance Filter, Behringer presents a clone of the Moog MF-105 MIDI MuRF from the popular MoogerFooger series. The Resonance Filter is essentially a filter bank with eight frequency bands, modulated by the built-in Pattern Animator. If you ignore all the modulation options, you can distort the incoming audio signal at the input and then apply frequency-selective filtering. But that’s only half the fun with this iconic filter unit. Things get really exciting with the Pattern Animator! This can run either at its own tempo or synchronised to the MIDI clock, and contains 24 patterns that drive the eight envelopes. The patterns are divided into 2 sets of 12, as different patterns are intended for the BASS and MIDS sections of the filter bank. This allows you to achieve results that are completely different not only rhythmically but also in terms of the frequency response. Each filter band is modulated by its own envelope, which, in conjunction with the trigger patterns, produces very lively and, above all, unique filter sounds – a level of complexity that very few devices can match.
The connections are the same as on the original: there are four CV/expression inputs for the Rate, Mix, Envelope and LFO/Sweep parameters. This allows the parameters to be controlled via an expression pedal or by any control voltages from the modular system. The audio input is mono, whilst the audio outputs feature a special arrangement: if you use only the L/Mono socket, all filter bands feed into this output; if you also use the right-hand socket, the filter bands 200, 450, 1K and 2.2K to the left output, and 300, 675, 1.5K and 3.4K to the right output. An external clock signal (e.g. from an analogue sequencer) can be connected to the Tap/Step input. Via the MIDI input, the Pattern Animator can be synchronised to MIDI clock, and all parameters can also be controlled via Control Change commands. The USB port is primarily intended for configuring the pedal using the GuitarTribe app.
