We use these as part of our outside broadcast kits for gigs. Do the job well but probably more features and knobs than we really need but couldn't find anything simpler with the features we needed at this price bracket - so a winner for us!
The RX1202FX has very high quality sound and robust construction. You'll pay a lot more to get superior performance. Really good compact mixer for a small live rig.
I wanted a rack mixer for my project studio as I am beginning to struggle for deskspace and the Behringer RX1202FX seemed to be the one that fitted most closely to my needs.
OK, let's get the gripes out of the way first. This is a rack mounted unit so why on earth are the power and 48V Phantom power switches on the back? Damned if I know why they chose to do this but, it is the one thing that is really frustrating about this piece of kit.
The eight mono channels and two stereo channels fit my needs and the pre-amps do not seem to add any noise to the signal. The mixer doesn't appear to add any unnecessary colour to the output either which when recording and mixing is a real boon.
When making connections to the unit, some forward planning is helpful, especially if you, like me, are mounting this into a desktop rack space, as all of the cabling goes in from the back. Of course, this keeps things nice and neat, with no trailing cables from the front of the unit but, it does make it harder if you haven't cabelled things correctly, to get them put right. The eight mono inputs have a choice of connections with either XLR or Jacks. They also have insert jacks too. If you are running a condenser mike, or two, then the 48V phantom power has to be given some thought, as accessing the switch can prove troublesome, to say the least.
The FX are OK but are not something that I am ever likely to use myself. In fact, I would have prefered not to have the FX and to have the power and 48V phantom Power switched on the front instead. There are a total of 100 effects and I would think, if using this as a live mixer, they would be OK in some circumstances.
The EQ works surprisingly well and although only two bands, high and low, are actually very good at shaping the signal.
Overall this is a very good mixer, for the price and it ticks all the right boxes. Enough inputs for a home studio or for a small gigging set-up.
