Dave Smith Instruments DSM03

The Dave Smith Instruments DSM03 Feedback Module is a tunable feedback module with various adjustable parameters. A newly developed lowpass filter with resonance allows even more possibilities for signal post-processing. For Karplus-Strong synthesis effects a triggerable noise with attack/decay envelope is on board.

Karplus-Strong synthesis

The feedback circuit is an offshoot of DSI´s Evolver, Pro 2 and Prophet 12. The tunable feedback picks up the audio output and sends this signal back into the filter and then into a delay, making Karplus-Strong effects child's play.

Newly developed lowpass filter design

The new digital filter is based partly on filters of the past, but was not designed to duplicate the specific sound of an existing filter, but should also provide a good-sounding stand-alone filter in addition to the feedback context. It works with oversampling and contains numerous optimizations in the signal path, which can enhance each signal musically. To ensure the best possible resolution of the audio signal, the digital filter operates in 24-bit/96kHz.

Numerous parameters controllable via CV

Individual control via CV of feedback amount, tuning, low-pass filter frequency and filter resonance. The module provides an audio input and an audio output, as well as a trigger input for the noise source.
