The ACL Sinfonion is a central control element with multichannel quantizer/harmonizer, sequencer and arpeggiator. This module is intended for larger modular systems in which many oscillators and envelopes form a musical whole. With three self-sufficient quantizers, a four-voice chord generator, the arpeggiator and a complex sequencer functionality, you get all the tools you need to tune multi-layered sounds to each other and make them usable in a musical and/or harmonic context.
Each Quantizer can be changed in real time by pressing a key to change the key or scale. The fact that more than the usual 12-tone scale is offered can be seen at first glance on the control panel. Exotics such as fill pattern, EQ dist and slew limiting are also included. The chord generator generates four voltages to control a four-part chord. With the two knobs and the dedicated buttons, numerous new (tuning) tunings can be created among the tone generators in no time at all. The arpeggiator contains eight different sequence patterns and uses the same selection of tone scales. The Chord Progression Sequencer controls almost all functions and circuits within the module and links them to mini-isongs. In this way chord changes are created. The Sinfonion can also be used for compositional-experimental approaches, for example to achieve usable results regarding the pitch of drone sounds.
This feels like a really well built module in comparison with most other Eurorack devices. The buttons are responsive and the pots have a smooth and solid feel to them when turned.
If one considers the Sinfonion's features closely, then it's price no longer feels excessive.
