With the Gibson Historic 1958 Les Paul Standard, the Gibson Custom Shop pays tribute to the first instruments of the legendary burst era of the late fifties. Built to classic specifications, Paula presents traditional appointments in the form of a two-piece maple top on a lightweight mahogany body with original shapings, while two Gibson Burstbucker pickups in neck and bridge position recreate the sound of classic PAFs. Last but not least the Gibson Historic 1958 Les Paul Standard VOS is completed by solid hardware with authentic vintage original Spec Ageing.
The classic Gibson Historic 1958 Les Paul Standard consists of a lightweight mahogany body finished with a two-piece maple top. Thanks to the extended Long Neck Tenon neck foot and the use of traditional Hide Glue, the neck-corpus connection is not only incredibly robust, but also extremely resonant and vibrant. The traditional medium chunky profile of the mahogany neck, on the other hand, provides a classic vintage paula feeling with 0.9 inches behind the first and one inch of wood behind the 12th fret.
The humbuckers known as custombuckers are wound in the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville and correspond in great detail to the classic PAF pickups of the 1950s, from the winding wire used to the Alnico mixture of the magnets. In the bridge position, the pickup produces bridge sounds rich in overtones with clear string separation, while the neck pickup skilfully converts warm and dynamic leads. Both pickups are controlled via a 3-way toggle and separate volume and tone controls.
Also the attachments of the Gibson Historic 1958 Les Paul Standard remain historically correct. Accordingly, the headstock of this '58 Paula features six original Kluson Deluxe tuners with single band engraving and single ring grand pianos, while the combination of ABR-1 Tune-o-Matic and Aluminum Stopbar provides a direct resonance transfer into the body and extensive adjustment possibilities for intonation and string position. All hardware parts, just like the nitrocellulose finish of the 1958 Historic Les Paul Standard, are equipped with a laborious VOS Ageing.
