With the Music Man 30th Anniversary StingRay 5 MN Trans Buttercream, the Californian bass smithy from San Luis Obispo celebrates the round birthday of the popular 5-string electric bass, which was first presented to the public in 1987. Accordingly, the five-string is convincing with a number of special details that underline its special status. These include the neck made of roasted maple and the specially tuned active electronics with three frequency bands.
The construction of the Music Man StingRay 5 follows the classical specifications, but has been optimized in decisive details. The ash body is connected to the Roasted Maple neck with six screws for a particularly stable connection. Due to a complex heat treatment under vacuum, the maple loses a large part of its moisture, which gives it increased stability and insensitivity to climate fluctuations. The wafer-thin satin finish of the neck also provides an extremely pleasant playing feeling.
The Music Man 30th Anniversary StingRay 5 naturally uses a Music Man humbucker with open pole pieces, whereby the white soapbar cover blends harmoniously into the noble look of the bass. In connection with the installation position, the characteristic StingRay sound is available on the amplifier, which forms the perfect basis for rocking grooves and dry funk slaps with tight basses and high transparency. Using the 3-way blade switch, the coils of the humbucker can be called up in different switching combinations for extended tones. In addition, a specially tuned 3-band active tone control is available for precise sound adjustment.
In addition, the Music Man 30th Anniversary StingRay 5 is equipped with high-quality hardware. The solidly built Music Man Standard bridge sits on the body, which combines a hardened steel base plate with stainless steel string riders and thus has a positive effect on the sustain and sound development of the five string bass. The two-dimensional adjustability also guarantees a comfortable string position and perfect intonation. From the bridge, the strings with a 34" scale length (864 mm) are guided towards the head plate, where they first hit the compensated saddle. Schaller BM tuners also promise precise and stable bass tuning.
