NoiseWorks VoiceAssist is a specialised ARA plug-in for vocal and dialogue processing that significantly speeds up the time-consuming but unavoidable correction steps. Instead of combining several individual tools for noise reduction, de-reverb, level editing, breath control, de-essing and mouth noises, VoiceAssist bundles these tasks into a single interface and works directly within your DAW. This not only saves time but also ensures a much smoother workflow when preparing vocals, speech, podcasts, voice-overs and dialogue.
VoiceAssist was built for precisely the kind of work that’s part of almost every production but is rarely enjoyable: removing background noise, reducing reverb, balancing levels, taming sibilance, controlling breath sounds and keeping pauses clean. These very steps don’t run as a ‘black box’ in the cloud, but directly on your system. This makes the plug-in particularly appealing to producers, vocal editors, post-production professionals and anyone who regularly has to deliver voice material under time pressure.
VoiceAssist helps you start with a clean, drier signal even before the actual mix. Traffic noise, fan noise, room resonance and distracting background noise can be reduced directly, without having to send the material through complicated external processes first. For challenging recordings, Spectral Editing is also available to refine problematic sections even more precisely.
If a signal loses its presence due to poor microphone positioning, muffled recording conditions or low-quality recording equipment, Recover Highs helps to restore the missing clarity. Particularly with home recordings, remote vocals or smartphone dialogues, this can make the difference between something that’s barely usable and something that’s genuinely mixable.
One of VoiceAssist’s particular strengths is its automatic vocal levelling. The plug-in analyses the performance and generates its own volume processing based on your settings. This ensures the voice is neatly levelled before it enters the rest of the mix chain, without you having to smother everything with heavy compression. Slower settings are available for more subtle riding, whilst faster variants are ideal for more controlled and assertive vocals.
With LUFS-I and LUFS-S Target Modes, you can better balance loudness levels and integrate recordings more seamlessly into a common context. This is particularly valuable in day-to-day work, especially with dialogue, podcasts, voice-overs and takes recorded under different conditions.
VoiceAssist can rebuild low-frequency energy when speech recordings sound too thin or lack impact. At the same time, Low-End Resonance Reduction helps to automatically smooth out narrow, boomy problem areas in the bass and lower midrange. This keeps the voice fuller without becoming muddy.
Particularly clever is the pitch-based low-cut, which analyses the lowest note of the voice and sets the cutoff accordingly. This removes unnecessary rumble without losing the natural substance of the voice.
Lip smacks, clicks and mouth noises can quickly make a recording sound uneven. VoiceAssist reliably reduces these disturbances, saving you the trouble of manually cutting out individual sections. The Sensitivity control allows you to precisely adjust how much is detected and how strongly the correction is applied.
Loud breathing is often a real time-waster in post-production for vocals, podcasts and dialogue. VoiceAssist automatically detects breaths whilst still allowing you to manually adjust, move, add to or remove any region. This means you retain control whilst keeping your workflow fast.
For harsh S, T and SH sounds, VoiceAssist not only operates in a broadband manner but can also precisely target the problematic frequencies spectrally. This often sounds more natural than a broad-brush approach to the entire signal and ensures clearer, less harsh vocals.
The Voice Gate recognises where speech actually begins and ends, and therefore operates more intelligently than a simple threshold gate. This reduces background noise between words without causing transients or the beginnings of words to disappear unnaturally. If you want more control, you can also switch to a classic gate approach and manually edit the detected sections.
VoiceAssist works directly via ARA, integrating particularly seamlessly into compatible DAWs. According to the manufacturer, supported applications include Pro Tools, Cubase, Studio One, Reaper, Logic Pro, Samplitude and Sequoia. This is a huge advantage, particularly for large projects, voice edits and tight production schedules, as it allows you to achieve results faster and avoid unnecessary detours.
VoiceAssist is designed for music production, mixing, post-production, dialogue editing, podcast editing, broadcast and hybrid workflows. The plug-in is particularly valuable for anyone who regularly prepares a large number of voice tracks and doesn’t want to spend hours manually applying the same corrections over and over again.
