Imagine mastering your mixes without causing the lifeless, squashed, and overcompressed sound that has become so common in modern music. We have all been at the mercy of the "loudness wars" for over ten years now. Masters have become louder and louder at the expense of the music becoming harsh and lacking punch and dynamics. One of the main causes of this epidemic is the use of the Peak Limiter to achieve increased levels in the mastering stage. Peak Limiters attenuate transients and often reduce punch, stereo imaging. They can greatly alter mix balances causing ear fatigue. Enter the FG-X.
The FG-X consists of two processors, the FG- Comp, and FG- Level. Designed by renowned DSP engineer Fabrice Gabriel and fine tuned by Steven Slate, these processors can bring your masters to new heights.
The FG- Comp is a world class mastering compressor that uses both VCA and Optical topologies. Modeled after several top mastering compressors, it can give your mix the final punch and glue that it needs for the final master. The FG-Level uses a new proprietary algorithm created by Slate Digital called ITP or Intelligent Transient Preserveration. The ITP process analyzes each transient in your mix and optimizes a specialized saturation curve to absorb the peaks in the most transparent manner. This allows you to add gain to your mix without creating the classic squashed sound we’ve all become accustomed to in modern music. The FG-Level also contains controls to adjust the low end and midrange punch of your mix, as well as providing a unique process called Dynamic Perception, which allows you to simulate even more dynamics in your mastered mix. The FG-X is already used in the top mastering houses. Now you can use this powerful tool, right from your home studio.
