The
Behringer Model D
is a
monophonic analogue synthesizer
in desktop design. For the authentic replication of the legendary Minimoog Model D sound,
"D-typical" JFETs
and
identical
transistors
,
resistors
and
capacitors
were used. A
completely analogue signal path for VCO, VCF and VCA
, as well as the classic
24dB cascade
filter
allow incredibly assertive and distinctive sounds. Furthermore the Model D offers additional features such as a filter characteristic switchable between
low/high pass
and a
semi-modular design
, which makes the Behringer Model D a complete synth voice perfectly integrated into modular Eurorack synthesizers.
Detailed Minimoog Model D replication
The authentic sound was achieved by replicating all sound shaping instances in detail:
Three oscillators with five waveforms with pulse width modulation
Noise generator to generate further waveforms
Completely analogue signal path of VCO, VCF and VCA
Assignable, fully analogue LFO with square/triangle waveform
Overdrive circuit (Overload)
Classic 24dB cascade filter with resonance
Additional features
Selectable filter characteristics between low/high pass for an extended sound spectrum
Semi-modular (internally pre-wired) signal flow for straightforward playing without additional cabling
For modular system applications, the internal pre-wiring can be "broken" by patching cables and used for modulation
Use as full synthesizer voice in the Eurorack modular system with 14 patch points
Extensive MIDI implementation
The Behringer Model D at a glance:
Legendary analogue synthesizer with triple VCO design for incredibly fat sounds
Authentic reproduction of the original Model D with tuned transistors and JFETs
Pure analogue signal path of VCO, VCF and VCA
Five waveforms with pulse width modulation for ultimate sounds
Classic 24dB cascade filter with resonance
Switchable low/high-pass filter for advanced sound design
Analogue LFO with square/triangular waveform
Semi-modular design for immediate play without cabling
Overdrive circuit gives that extra something for distinctive and assertive sounds
Noise generator for advanced waveform generation
16-voice Poly Chain allows cascading of several synthesizers for a polyphony of up to 16 voices
Complete Eurorack voice - The sound generator can be built into a Eurorack housing
49 control elements for direct access to all important parameters
External audio inputs for editing external sound sources
Low and high output level outputs for best possible integration of the audio signal
Extensive MIDI functions

for the money, this has to be the best mono synth on the market. behringer are really onto a good thing with these analogue synths at affordable prices - it's opened up a whole new world of sound, which was only previously available to people with serious amounts of money. if they continue in this vein it's going to really have an impact on people getting into synthesized music with high quality gear at their disposal, as it's now actually becoming affordable.
It's a Moog. If you want an authentic Moog sound for the price of a few plugins - this is it. The button switches feel a little flimsy but the pots are good, with overall build quality being more than adequate. Easy buy.
I really enjoyed this purchase, I cannot stop tweaking it! The model D sounds astoundingly expressive and dynamic. In order to grasp the basics requires some effort furthermore you will require a lot of study to get deep into the whole synth concept. There is a great sound library on the internet by which you can copy the knobs positions to replicate the sounds. The sound is a five star, the features too. I was really surprised by the quality of the device. It is very well built, robust, a boutique machine of great inspiration. The knobs are very sturdy and the buttons feel solid. The ability to move it in a eurorack box is one of the pros. You have the ability to connect via usb or midi cable. I have used it with midi via a q25 alesis. I feel that a better option would be a midi keyboard with arpeggiator and maybe a sequencer like the arturia keystep which I may obtain on a later occasion. My only con is that sometimes the sound alters its pitch via the midi signals especially when you are using an external arpeggiator. I found that to happen when I was sending an arpeggio via the midi cable from the Novation Ultranova. I do not know if it is a sysex problem or a sync one or a heat one. I feel the calibration of the model D was accurate and the oscillators fairly calibrated (by ear). I might use an oscilloscope to find out more. The price is fair in contrast with the rest of the companies that require a lot more money to purchase a similar analog synth. This is maybe the main reason of this purchase in accordance with the abilities offered (3 osc, great filter, etc). If I would add something to the model D to perfect it, would be a small, button like, keyboard for notes and arpeggiator/sequencer like the crave and maybe some reverb/delay/chorus effects. Those bought as extra hardware would require some 200 euros more, so you will require 500 euros for the perfect model D. Then there is the option of the Poly D but its 200 euros more expensive from the thing I have in mind with no modular rack abilities. Its is a very well though basis to begin your eurorack modular synth and you can expand it however you like. The dispatch of the item was prompt enough, It arrived in a weeks period amidst the covid-19 outbreak to Greece. It arrived via DHL in my door in an excellent package, very safe and in pristine condition. I believe, I would seriously consider buying more equipment from musicstore.de since I was very delighted by their service provided. In general it is a synth worth considering for anyone to get pure analog sound, synthesis learning and there is much info on how to trim it and make it sound right. PS. I updated it via the Behringer site to v1.1.1, in a very easy procedure via usb.
