Future Sound Systems OSC1 Cyclical Engine

With the OSC1 Cyclical Engine Future Sound Systems introduces an analog oscillator that convinces among other things with VCA-mixable waveforms. The four waveforms sawtooth, triangle, square and sine each have their own VCA with level control and can be individually modulated in their loudness. In addition to the individual outputs required for this, there is also a mix output, which is basically a two/four quadrant multiplier and generates interesting sounds between AM (amplitude modulation) and ring modulation. FM has also been thought of, the CV input with attenuator is switchable between linear and exponential.

New harmonics & chaos

Another highlight is the possibility to influence the symmetry of all four waveforms; what corresponds to the classic pulse width modulation for square waves, creates completely new harmonics for the other waves and reaches into the metallic pure. Things get really weird when an external signal (e.g. a drum machine) is fed to the inject socket, this is able to disturb the sawtooth core. This can produce intermodulation-like effects and create new ranges of chaotic oscillations.
