The GForce Prophet~5 marks the first official software instrument developed in collaboration with Sequential, bringing one of the most influential polysynths in music history directly into the DAW. The original Sequential Prophet~5 has been regarded as a milestone since 1978 for bringing together analogue warmth, patch memory and direct control in a form that has shaped entire generations of productions. The software version brings precisely this spirit to a modern setup, combining historical authenticity with contemporary flexibility.
The appeal of the Prophet~5 lies not only in its history, but above all in its sound. From silky SSM warmth to the distinctive punch of the Curtis filters, this instrument covers precisely the timbres that have defined countless pop, film, rock and electronic productions. GForce and Sequential have not simply recreated a classic, but have deliberately preserved the different hardware revisions and made them musically accessible.
The GForce Prophet 5 recreates the characteristic features of Rev1, Rev2 and Rev3. This gives you not just a general Prophet sound, but several historic sonic personalities in a single plugin. The earlier revisions deliver the coveted SSM tone, whilst the later Rev3 version features the typical Curtis character. It is precisely this juxtaposition that makes the instrument so exciting, as classic warm pads, edgier polyphonic sounds and punchy leads can be summoned with great precision.
One of the most important enhancements is the dual-layer architecture. This allows sounds to be played not only individually, but also combined in layer, split and alternate modes. Up to 10 voices are available per layer. This significantly expands the classic Prophet approach and makes the plugin extremely interesting for modern setups featuring more complex performance sounds, splits and large pads.
Also new are the revised X-Modifiers. These allow dedicated envelopes and LFOs to be routed to almost any parameter. This opens the door to significantly more dynamic, lively and experimental sound trajectories without losing the instrument’s inherent character. This is a major advantage, particularly for sound designers and producers, as it allows the Prophet~5 to extend far beyond classic retro applications.
The GForce Prophet 5 also features a high-quality effects section. Two freely selectable FX slots are available, as well as dedicated delay, reverb and pan-spread effects. Options include chorus, phaser, filter, distortion, tremolo and compressor. This allows sounds to be refined directly within the plugin and quickly brought into a production-ready context.
With full MPE compatibility, the Prophet 5 is also designed for modern performance controllers. This allows the iconic synth to be played with far greater expressiveness than many classic emulations. Particularly when combined with the new modulation options, this gives the instrument a very contemporary, performative edge.
Although the Prophet 5 remains closely tied to the hardware, it is clearly built for today’s workflows. This includes a fully scalable high-resolution interface, a patch browser with tags and search, extensive MIDI CC assignments, an arpeggiator and chord modes per layer. As a result, the instrument doesn’t feel like a museum piece, but rather a genuine production partner for modern sessions.
With over 460 professionally crafted presets, you’re immediately given a great musical starting point. What’s particularly exciting is that this also includes the 38 original factory patches from 1978. In this way, the GForce Prophet 5 combines historic reference sounds with modern sound programs for contemporary productions.
