Authentic Reissue of the 57 Goldtop Les Paul with Murphy Lab Ageing

With the Gibson 1957 Les Paul Goldtop Ultra Heavy Aged, the Murphy Lab of the Gibson Custom Shop presents an authentic reissue of the legendary '57 Les Paul with playing marks reproduced down to the smallest detail. The lovingly handcrafted ageing includes the typical Weather Checking in the nitrocellulose lacquer and the inevitable Buckle Rash on the back of the body, as well as a meticulous relic of the nickel hardware and patinated add-on parts made of historically correct cellulose acetate butyrate plastic (CAB). Construction-wise, Gibson naturally relies on historically authenticated Les Paul construction for the Murphy Lab '57 Goldtop, with a long neck heel and hide glue for all wood joints, while custombucker pickups and a hand-wired circuit deliver absolutely authentic vintage tones. Last but not least, Kluson Style tuners and the ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece established by legendary Gibson president Ted McCarty complete the package.

Les Paul in historically correct construction

In order for the Murphy Lab 1957 Les Paul Goldtop to convey the absolutely authentic vintage feeling, Gibson naturally relies on the historically correct construction method of the late fifties. Accordingly, the body is built solid from carefully selected mahogany wood and fitted with a two-piece "plain top" made of maple, while the mahogany neck is glued together with a long neck root that extends below the neck pickup. The use of Hide Glue for all wood joints supports the incredibly lively response and resonance of the guitar. Last but not least, the powerful "Chunky C" neck profile feels rich and comfortable in the hand, allowing classic playing techniques to be implemented with ease.

Gibson Custombuckers with Alnico III magnets and the hand-wired circuit with CTS-Pots and Paper-in-Oil Caps promise unadulterated vintage sounds for Blues and Rock.

Custombucker pickups with handwired circuitry.

As pickups for the 1957 Les Paul Goldtop Ultra Heavy Aged the Gibson Murphy Lab chooses two Gibson custombuckers. Equipped with unwaxed coils and Alnico III magnets, the humbuckers turn out to be authentic replicas of the legendary PAF pickups and elicit lively vintage tones with a vocal midrange spectrum from the guitar amp, responding sensitively to playing technique and the volume pot, putting the sound shaping in the hands of the player. Controlled naturally via a 3-way switch and CTS's own Volume and Tone knobs, the Custombuckers promise harmonic Treble roll-offs.

GIBSON 1957 Les Paul Goldtop Ultra Heavy Aged #72986 Headstock
Kluson tuners with "Single Line" embossed on the body and "Single Ring" wings keep the 1957 Les Paul Goldtop from the Gibson Murphy Lab securely in the correct tuning.

Traditional hardware equipment

Last but not least, the Gibson Custom Shop and Murphy Lab complete the 1957 Les Paul Goldtop Ultra Heavy Aged with the traditional hardware appointments that have been an integral part of every Les Paul since the Fifties. Accordingly, a lightweight aluminum stopbar guides the strings over the classicABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, whose extensive adjustment options guarantee precise intonation and string action. Retaining rods screwed directly into the body wood also support the guitar's lively tonal character. Behind the nylon nut, historically correct Kluson Single Line/Single Ring tuners also ensure the '57 Goldtop Les Paul's accurate and robust tuning.
