With the Ibanez JEM777L-DY Lefthand Desert Sun Yellow, the traditional Japanese company and guitar virtuoso Steve Vai reissued the original YWAM, whose unique design and equipment attracted attention for the first time at the 1987 NAMM Show. Accordingly, the Ibanez JEM 30th Anniversary offers not only the colorful finish in Desert Sun Yellow with pink accents and Disappearing Pyramid inlays, but also DiMarzio Evolution pickups and an original Ibanez Edge tremolo for the authentic Steve Vai sound.
In designing the Ibanez JEM777L-DY Lefthand Desert Sun Yellow, Ibanez follows the historical specifications developed with Steve in 1987, and accordingly the Signature electric guitar has a Linde body that is given the typical silhouette by the Monkey Grip and the Lion's Claw milling under the tremolo. The screwed neck is also made of maple with walnut strips and carries a maple fingerboard with the typical Disappearing pyramid inlays. With its extremely flat, comfortable D-profile with just 18 mm thickness under the saddle, the neck also offers the perfect race track for virtuoso shredding. Last but not least, the frets 21 - 24 are scalloped to give licks in high positions a comfortable handling.
The pickups used on the Ibanez JEM777 are of course the combination of two DiMarzio Evolution humbuckers and an Evolution single coil, which was developed by the New York pickup company in close guitar work with Steve Vai. The Evolution bridge humbucker convinces accordingly with its assertive sound, which emphasizes every note cleanly and asserts itself with high mid-presence in even the densest mix. Its counterpart on the neck, on the other hand, convinces with a fat, warm sound that makes every solo sing without definition and attack going down. The two humbuckers are complemented by the Evolution Single Coil in the middle, which delivers a modern single coil sound with bell-like response and high tone definition. Master Volume and Master Tone controls as well as a 5-way switch are available for tone control.
As befits a real shredder guitar, the Ibanez JEM777L-DY Lefthand Desert Sun Yellow is also equipped with the proven Ibanez Edge Tremolo, which, thanks to its double locking construction, can take even the toughest uses of the Whammy Bar without detuning the electric guitar. The system also convinces with its butter-soft handling. As a special feature, two tremolo back stops offer the Ibanez Edge a fixed zero point, so that the JEM stays in tune even with a broken string. The headstock also features Gotoh tuners with creamy running and high tuning precision.
