The Tascam SS-R250N is a professional, network-ready solid-state audio recorder that comes with versatile control options for professional applications. It records audio data in WAV and MP3 formats to SD/SDHC/SDXC and USB flash drives. It supports recording and output of high-resolution files up to 96 kHz / 24 bit. With its network capability, it offers the ability to automatically upload files to an FTP server after recording or vice versa for output download. The SS-R250N is operated either on the device itself or via the optional RC-SS150 remote control. Additionally, there is a dedicated app for iOS and Android devices that can be used to control the transport and adjust various settings.
The Tascam SS-R250N features balanced and unbalanced analogue inputs and outputs, as well as coaxial SPDIF and AES/EBU digital inputs and outputs. An optional Dante interface card provides two-channel input and output for Dante audio networks.
Due to its versatile recording and playback capabilities, the SS-R250N audio recorder is suitable for fixed installations, conference and meeting recording, hospitality, etc..

Tascam SS-R250NFor 95% of what you will use this for, this unit is perfect: once you'e set up your formats & media, recording is a breeze and the capture equality is at least as good as my previous recorder which was a repurposed MacMini. Despite my comments below, this is still a great piece of kit.
A couple of quibbles:
- FTP is intermittent. Sometimes it works, sometimes it decides not to.
- FTP is slow: 30 minutes to transfer 2gb on an internal network when I can shift more than that in a minute or so from other equipment in the house, including kit on the same network hub.
- The date stays 'set' but the clock doesn't. A first world problem but confusing when you have edited files that seem to be created before the original files.
As a result of the FTP issues I am having to resort to transferring manually which means taking out the memory card, walking it to the mac, plugging in a card reader, etc, etc which is a pain. You also can't do it while the unit is recording to that memory stick so it slows my whole workflow down. It may be that I've screwed up a ftp setting somewhere but, if so, I can't find it.
