The MXL R144 Ribbon Microphone is a high-quality and competitively priced ribbon mic featuring a 47mm ribbon length; ideal for capturing vocals and acoustic instruments, but also great for spoken word applications.
Incorporating a Figure 8 polar pattern and a 1.8-micron aluminium ribbon, the R144 offers breathtaking sound for vocal and instrument recordings and is an excellent microphone for broadcast applications. The R144 also performs brilliantly on acoustic instruments, strings, and horns and offers high SPL capability, outstanding side rejection and precise directivity.

You need to be carefull, as with most ribbon mics they dont take phantom power, they have a low output and they are sensitive to high pressures because their ribbon is very thin.
The mics are great. Awesome warm sound. Ive already tried it on vocals,cajon,acordion, acoustic guitar and drum overheads and they performed very well on all these applications.
They can smooth out out sounds that might be harsh when captured with condenser mics and they have a very natural sound.
Sometimes, when the sound source is too quiet, you can start to hear some noise, but with a good clean preamp this shouldnt be a problem.
The only thing I wish they had was a lo cut filter and maybe a 10db pad.
