Moog’s Minimoog Model D is a rerelease of the iconic and recognisable portable synthesizer, which has now officially had its production restarted after many years of demand. Released in the 1970s the Model D became an influence on the development of keyboards and synthesizers from that time forward. Many of the most progressive artists of the last few decades have been known to make use of the diverse sounds made by this synth.
The unit itself is a 3-Oscillator, monophonic, analogue synthesizer housed in a hard-wood exterior surfaces and hand-finished aluminium chassis. The internal circuitry is reproduced exactly as it was in the original models, a process that guarantees accurate recreation of the famous sound.
There are a number of additions to make sure the new Model D stands shoulder to shoulder with modern synthesizers. These include a premium Fatar key-bed with velocity and after pressure available via top panel CV jacks, a dedicated analogue LFO with triangle and square waveshapes, CV outputs for pitch, gate, velocity and after pressure, basic MIDI integration, and a mixer overload modification, which when enabled allows the Minimoog Model D to produce denser and more distorted sounds in the past.
Every Model D is hand-crafted and as a result, and due to the complexity of the Model D’s components, only a small number of units are currently produced by Moog in any given month.
