The great appeal of Noam’s Mastering Console lies in the fact that it is not simply a collection of individual modules placed side by side. The integrated Bax EQ handles broad, musical tone shaping. Rather than surgical corrections, the focus here is on subtly boosting or taming the highs and lows with maximum musical integrity. This is precisely why a Bax-type EQ is so popular in mastering. It makes a mix sound more open, airy or rounded, without throwing it off balance.
The M/S Matrix allows you to shape the mid and side components independently of one another. This enables you to stabilise the midrange specifically, give the sides more space, or layer the stereo image more deliberately overall. This is an incredibly powerful tool, particularly during final mastering, as width and focus often determine how grand and professional a mix is perceived to be.
Another powerful feature is the integrated de-esser, which operates before the final gain stage. This allows you to reduce harsh high-frequency content, hissing ‘s’ sounds or unpleasantly aggressive peaks without making the mix sound dull. This is particularly important in mastering, as excessive highs often only become noticeably distracting right at the very end.
The built-in clipper allows you to generate additional loudness without having to rely solely on traditional limiting. This gives the mix more punch and presence, whilst keeping the signal under control. In conjunction with the auto-gain options, this step can be assessed in a much more musical and transparent way.
Noam’s Mastering Console supports AU, VST3 and AAX on Mac and PC, runs in all major DAWs and is supplied as a perpetual licence.
