So far I've been pulling great punchy kicks out of it. I wanted to do more with it, modulating everything with gate streams to go somewhat IDM/industrial, but the overall sounds get pretty nasty digital very fast, if you're not careful. Not subtle... But if that's what you're after, the modules doesn't disappoint. It's easy to get very metallic and harsh and plumb.
For me, being able to have total control over my kicks is brilliant. In electronic music, the kicks plays a vital role. The module lets you mold them anyway you want. They bang through any mix, very present, punchy and in yer face. I've got attack, decay, pitch and timbre under my fingertips (and a lot more), and every aspect under voltage control. I would recommend it for the kicks alone. I'm not wondering anymore how some techno or house artists get their kicks.
Very solid build. No menu's or double functions or hold X then double tap Y to set Z sillyness what so ever. WYSIWYG
This is to date the best drum voice you can get. Hands down.... I don't think I need to say more. You'll have watched the videos on YouTube about the BIA before purchase so you know. You have to have this in your system. Best money I ever spent.
The Basimilus Iteritas Alter (BIA) is a popular module and I can agree it is very good. Whether you want fat bass tones, industrial percussion or even more mellow ambient plucks, it can do all of these things. The module is great when all of its CV inputs are modulated at once, it can be a complete rhythmic voice from just one module. The module is digital and sounds very bright (I like this) but you may prefer putting a filter after it to shape it down to taste. My only small complaints about this module are the rather stiff knobs, they are like Doepfer where they are not easily twisted with the flick of a finger. So fast movements by hand is not easily done.
The Noise Engineering Basimilus Iteritas Alter is a sound source that has many faces: 2 switches determine how the algorithm works delivering total new outputs, from bass till metal like sounds. The 8 knobs - which are all CV controllable - make it possible to create bass - percussion - hihats and more at the same time... This module is perfect as basis for techno link music or as a perfect add on to a beat that has a constant flow. Feeding an LFO into one or more of the controls makes is almost possible to use this module on his own to create percussive/danceable tracks... A keeper for sure \0/
