The Pawn Shop Amp by Stu Mackenzie of King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, now in a compact pedal
The JAM Pedals Tiny Amp Destroyer was developed in collaboration with Stu Mackenzie of King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard and captures the distinctive character of a mini amp pushed to its limits in pedal form. The sonic inspiration came from a small pawn shop amp that Mackenzie used on recent KGLW productions, driven by two JAM Pedals Boomster boosters. Two separately switchable gain stages, G1 and G2, form the heart of the Tiny Amp Destroyer and, when used individually, range from light break-up to heavy distortion, whilst both stages can be stacked to produce significantly wilder sounds. With the Magic switch active, the characteristic, boxy small-amp sound comes more to the fore, whilst the Notch control allows for extensive adjustment of its mid-range character. In addition, there is an independent treble booster based on the JAM Pedals Rooster, which can be used either on its own or in front of the two gain stages. Active bass/treble tone control and the optional G1 Global Bypass expand this unusual distortion concept to offer additional possibilities, ranging from controlled low-gain drive to deliberately overdriven mini-amp distortion.
