The Clavia Nord Wave 2 is a virtual analog keyboard synthesizer with 61 Waterfall keys, four parts, 48 voices, mixable synthesis and morphing function. The "deuce" comes in the usual striking red, continues to convince with ingeniously simple operation with only a few double assignments, two meaningful OLED displays, high-quality workmanship and excellent sound.
The biggest innovations of the Clavia Nord Wave 2 have been in the oscillator section: besides classic waveforms, mixtures, sync and noise, samples have been integrated that are based on Clavia's excellent Nord Sample Library 3.0. There are also wavetables and FM with 2, 3 or 4 operators. Four of these processes can be created as layers per patch, mixed, assigned to groups and of course processed with filters, envelopes and effects. The filter itself offers the choice between lowpass 12 dB and 24 dB, lowpass Moog style, bandpass, highpass and the new lowpass/highpass combination. On top of that, the Drive control has been implemented to roughen the filtered signal even before the effects.
With the new grouping function, sounds can be grouped together on 2, 3 or 4 layers and given the same filter, envelope, arpeggiator, LFO and effect settings. If you are looking for or need complex, multi-layered sounds, the Nord Wave 2 synthesizer is guaranteed to deliver here.
The Nord Wave 2 does not skimp on the effects; a whole four effects blocks refine the sound: The series opens with a multi-effect that generates, among other things, ring modulation, pan and chorus. It is followed by a parametric equalizer, the extensively editable and synchronizable delay and last but not least the reverb, which can be switched between five characteristics.
