Anyone who works live with synthesizers, grooveboxes, drum machines and sequencers knows the problem: during a build, more and more parameters are changed, effects activated and filters opened. The perfect moment for the drop is approaching, but at the same time the risk of losing control of the entire setup is growing. This is exactly where the Neuzeit Instruments Drop comes in.
Drop is a powerful MIDI master controller designed specifically for live electronic performances. Instead of controlling individual devices in isolation, it connects the entire setup to a central performance interface. Synthesizers, grooveboxes, modular systems, DAWs and MIDI controllers can be managed, synchronised and automated together.
At the heart of the system are 20 banks, each with 20 snapshots. This means that a total of 400 snapshot memory locations are available to store complete states of knobs, faders and switches and recall them at any time.
In JUMP mode, snapshots are executed immediately or quantised with a freely adjustable fade time. This creates smooth transitions that are ideal for building up tension and dynamic sound movements.
The eponymous DROP mode goes one step further. Here, a snapshot is pre-recorded and triggered exactly at the end of a freely definable clock grid. While the audience waits for the resolution, Drop resets all parameters to the desired state at the right moment. Precisely, reproducibly and without hectic interventions.
Complete song sequences can also be prepared. In CHAIN mode, snapshots can be organised in a defined sequence and played back automatically. This makes Drop suitable not only for spontaneous live jams, but also for structured performances with prepared arrangements.
With 32 push encoders without detent, 8 mute buttons and 8 faders, Drop offers direct access to a large number of parameters. The controls are distributed over two layers and can also be expanded to up to eight layers. This means that a total of up to 256 encoder assignments and numerous other control elements are available per project.
Each controller can control up to eight different MIDI destinations simultaneously. Individual curves and macro mappings enable complex control across multiple devices. For example, a single encoder is sufficient to change filter movements, effect components and volumes of several instruments simultaneously.
All mapping is done directly on the device. MIDI Learn, device databases, copy and move functions and an integrated MIDI monitor make it easy to set up extensive setups. No external software is required.

Drop not only functions as a controller, but also as an intelligent MIDI hub. The integrated MIDI merge function allows incoming signals from sequencers, keyboards or other controllers to be processed, filtered and distributed to multiple devices. As a result, Drop takes on the role of a central routing instance and makes additional hardware or software superfluous in many setups.
Classic MIDI CCs are supported as well as 14-bit CCs, NRPN, Aftertouch, Pitchbend, Programme Change and Bank Select. Snapshot recalls can even automatically trigger programme changes and preset changes on connected devices.
Four MIDI inputs and four MIDI outputs as well as two USB-C MIDI ports are available for synchronisation. Each connected device has its own MIDI port and can be customised with individual clock delays down to the millisecond.
Cycle lengths from one to 32 bars, beat jump functions, nudge for manual beat matching and a fast re-sync function ensure that even larger hardware setups remain reliably synchronised. Incoming MIDI or CV clocks can also be used as a clock source.
In addition to the extensive MIDI functions, Drop has two CV inputs and two CV outputs. These can be used to synchronise analogue devices, for trigger and gate signals or as freely assignable 0 to 5 volt control voltages.
This means that Drop can be easily integrated into Eurorack and modular setups and combines classic MIDI hardware with analogue systems.
Drop works both in purely hardware-based setups and in conjunction with a DAW. A script is available for Ableton Live that allows the snapshot matrix to be used as a clip launcher with RGB feedback.
The 4x5 button matrix performs tasks such as clip start, scene control and transport functions. It is even possible to trigger Ableton scenes in synchronisation with a scheduled drop.
Alternatively, the matrix can be used as a compact MIDI keyboard with transpose and scale functions. Thanks to automatic host and device recognition, external MIDI devices can also be connected directly via USB.
The robust metal housing, metal faders and metal encoders are consistently designed for live use. RGB LEDs and colour-coded controls ensure quick orientation even in poor lighting conditions.
Power is supplied either via USB-C or the supplied mains adapter. The scope of delivery also includes USB-C cables, MIDI adapters and international power supply adapters for worldwide use.
