WMD Geiger Counter Pro - High-Gain Preamp

Distortion from WMD

The Pro version of the infamous Geiger Counter from WMD is probably one of the heaviest distortion pedals on the market. The striking yellow pedal with a design somewhere between an atomic reactor and C64 grid optics primarily combines a high-gain preamp, a bit crusher and a wavetable-based distortion. The signal path starts with the excellent-sounding preamp, which tends towards germanium in terms of sound and really brings every signal up to a decent level. The Tone control determines the rough direction of the sound. This is followed by a Bit Crusher, which consists of the Samples and Bits parameters. This has a really destructive effect on the signal, removing overtones, making everything sound more angular and imprinting a strong atonal character. With a little sensitivity, you can move musically between the very first samplers and the Sega and Nintendo games consoles of the early 90s. The third audio router is another distortion unit based on Wavetables . The GCP's memory contains 512 wavetables, each of which can be run through in 16 steps. The Wavetables are used as cutting patterns for the audio signal. It sounds simply incredible, especially really powerful. This method has so far only been used in WMD's Geiger Counter models. Morphing, i.e. seamless fading from one extreme state to the other, is also possible between two Wavetables. :-) The final stage in the signal path is a resonance-free low-pass filter, which smoothes out peaks and nasty frequency ranges without further ado. But that's not all! The Geiger Counter Pro is equipped with a randomizer for random settings, a complete MIDI implementation for each parameter and 16 presets for your favourite settings. Furthermore, two of a total of eight parameters can be modulated using a control voltage or expression pedal.
