The Odyssey FS kit from ARP/Korg is a full-size replica of the famous retro classic ARP Odyssey for self-assembly. The iconic analogue synthesizer is an authentic reissue of the classic and combines all three filter revisions released at the time (MkI 12dB, MkII 24db, MkIII 24dB with stabilized resonance). Switching between the filter revisions is effortless with a switch. The Odyssey FS kit's control panel, colour scheme and most specifications are the same as the last revision 3 released at that time in black and orange. In addition, a switchable overdrive has been integrated between the filter and VCA. The most obvious feature of the Odyssey has always been the many sliders and switches, which simply offer a different way of handling the instrument. With two analogue oscillators that have sawtooth and square with pulse width modulation, an extensive sample & hold function, LFO, ring modulator, audio and CV mixer, lowpass filter with all three versions, downstream highpass filter, overdrive, VCA and two envelopes, this reincarnation of a cult synth is more than fully equipped.
In addition to countless bass and lead sounds, it is above all the sync sounds that have the greatest share in the popularity of the Odyssey. In addition, you still have to give the instrument credit for the fact that, due to the diverse modulation options, abstract sounds are possible for which you would rather have to use a modular system, then as now. Especially when played freehand, the Odyssey unfolds its funky potential from over 40 years of music history.
Before you can get started with the Odyssey FS kit, this DIY (do it yourself) kit wants to be built. No soldering or (deeper) knowledge of electrical engineering is required: the case, keyboard, base plate, motherboard and the small boards with the connectors are simply plugged together and screwed together. An illustrated, multilingual assembly manual is included with the kit.
