The Mesh-Head Drum Pads

All of the drum pads of the DD-8600 PRO e-drum sets are equipped with mesh heads. These create incredibly realistic rebound and a natural play feeling, as authentic as possible without the noise as these heads allow for near silent playing. Mesh heads also ensure for a cleaner and more precise trigger signal. The reason for this is the fact that mesh heads do not “vibrate” or oscillate like conventional heads do, instead they return to their original state much after being struck. This ensures for an undistorted transmission of the trigger signals.

The pads are – not including the kick pad – equipped with two triggers (flat and rim). This means that in addition to the main sound of the pads more sounds can be added, by simultaneously striking the head and the rim – just like on an acoustic drum. Naturally, the head and rim can be assigned completely different sounds. As the striking of a metal ring produces a louder sound, the rims of these pads feature rubber lips for protection and to dampen the sound.

In contrast to other E-Drums in this price class, the Fame DD-8600 PRO even features a kick-pad equipped with mesh heads. The striking of mesh heads, in contrast to rubber pads, by the bass drum pedal beater results in much less noise, making it possible to practice at home with the DD-8600 PRO without disturbing your neighbours.

The Multi-Zone Cymbal Pads

Even the hi-hat and the Crash cymbals of the DD-8600 PRO are dual zone, the Ride even has three zones. This system allows the cymbal pads to perfectly imitate the various sound regions of an acoustic cymbal. The Ride cymbal, for example, features an edge, a flat and a bell sound. A highlight in this price class is the hihat control pedal, as it is also capable of producing half-open sounds as well as conventional fully open and closed sounds.

There is a sensor under the cymbal pads, which helps to create a choke function, i.e. muting the cymbals. All you have to do is grab the cymbal with your hand, and the cymbal sound is silent immediately. The surface of all cymbals is coated with a soft rubber, which considerably reduces playing sounds and creates a better play feeling.

The DD-8600 PRO Sound Module

The DD-8600 PRO sound module is one of the best you get for the money. It provides a huge selection of sounds with 678 drums and percussion sounds for every taste from Rock/Pop over Blues and R’n’B to Heavy Metal. There are 18 combo sounds available for the Hi-Hat alone. But that isn’t everything. All sounds can be edited with various parameters. This allows the adjustment of the pad volume, panorama, the tone pitch and length as well as the reverb to be controlled via the volume, pan, pitch, decay and reverb controls.

With the Pad Pattern function it is possible to start whole rhythms by striking the pads, even starting the playback of complete songs is possible this way! There are 120 songs already pre-programmed into the DD-8600 PRO sound module for you to jam along to. There is enough memory space for 100 additional songs of your own. The “Part Mute” function allows you to mute only certain sections. In map mode, all of the channels of MIDI songs can be muted.

Trigger and Additional Inputs

Next to the trigger inputs for snare, 3 toms, crash, hihat, kick and ride, on the back you will also find two additional trigger inputs for an additional crash cymbal as well as a fourth tom pad. Additional equipment can be connected via following the In and Outputs:
