The Gibson 1958 Les Paul Standard Lemon Burst Heavy Aged represents the first vintage of the golden Les Paul era of the late 1950s, which ushered in the legendary Burst models. As a genuine instrument from the Gibson Custom Shop, no expense or effort was spared in recreating this classic as faithfully as possible. Alongside historically correct wood selection and electronics reproduced down to the smallest detail, this reissue features an authentic heavy aging treatment from the Gibson Murphy Lab.
The Gibson Murphy Lab 1958 Les Paul Standard Lemon Burst Heavy Aged #83267 represents the early vintages of the coveted burst era of the late fifties.
Hardware and Finish with Murphy Lab aging treatment
In addition to construction and sound, the coherent overall concept of the Gibson 1958 Les Paul Standard includes a convincing aging treatment that delivers the correct look and feel. To achieve this, the Gibson Custom Shop experts at the Murphy Lab skillfully apply an aged treatment to both the nitrocellulose finish and the nickel-plated hardware of the 1958 Les Paul. The Heavy Aged treatment represents a more pronounced aging process and simulates years of accumulated wear in the form of visible playing marks on an instrument that has been extensively used. The composition of the nitrocellulose lacquer has also been carefully considered, allowing the instrument to develop additional aging characteristics over time.
Two custom shop-wound Gibson Custom Buckers with Alnico III magnets produce authentic PAF sounds.
Hand-wired electronics with authentic components
The Gibson 1958 Les Paul Standard Lemon Burst Heavy Aged features hand-wired electronics that faithfully reproduce the sound and response of traditional models. 2 hand-wound Gibson Custom Bucker pickups are used, following the classic PAF recipe with Alnico III magnets and unpotted coils. In addition, treble roll-off in the tone controls is handled via genuine CTS potentiometers and paper-in-oil capacitors, allowing Clapton’s coveted Woman Tone to be convincingly recreated.
The mahogany neck with a long neck foot and a strong chunky C profile evokes the classic Paula feeling.

The foundation of a successful Les Paul reissue lies in its core construction, centered around a substantial chunky C mahogany neck with a long glued neck heel for direct response and long sustain. The body, also crafted from mahogany, consists of 1 solid piece and is topped with a 2-piece maple cap, finished with elegant Royalite binding. Completing this authentic 1958 reissue is a 22-fret East Indian rosewood fingerboard fitted with historically correct Authentic Medium Jumbo fretwire.
