The Avid Pro Tools MTRX Studio is a top-of-the-range 18 x 22 AD/DA converter with full integration into Pro Tools HDX and HD Native systems and sampling rates ranging from 44.1 to 192 kHz. It offers 18 analogue inputs and outputs and a wide range of modern digital interfaces, including 2 DigiLink ports for direct connection to Avid interface cards. What’s more, you can access the full range of control options using any Eucon-compatible device, such as Avid’s DAW controllers – without a second window and without any driver issues.

As with the other devices in the MTRX series, AD/DA conversion is handled by premium chips from the Danish manufacturer DAD, which guarantee optimum sound fidelity and a wide dynamic range. The accompanying‘DADman’ software allows for completely flexible assignment of all inputs and outputs for recording, producing and creating monitor mixes. The mixes can also be saved as monitor profiles and optimally adapted to the monitoring environment using the integrated SPQ speaker calibration. Two of the analogue inputs are enhanced by premium preamplifiers and can be fed directly with microphone signals.
With the optionally available Thunderbolt 3 module, the MTRX Studio is further transformed into a Thunderbolt 3 audio interface with64 channels of I/O. This makes it possible to utilise the integrated DigiLink interfaces with the added flexibility of Core Audio, featuring low latency via Thunderbolt 3. From the ability to route other applications to DADMan through to advanced ATMOS workflows, theTB3 option moduleoffers a range of benefits for MTRX Studio users. It supports low-latency recording (1.5 ms from input → PT → output with a 32-sample buffer, @96 kHz) and enables the simultaneous operation of multiple workstations (computers). All native audio workstations, such as Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton, Cubase / Nuendo and Resolve, are supported.

The MTRX Studio allows connection to a Dante network via standard LAN ports. A 512 x 512 routing matrix simplifies control over the channels distributed across the network. Additional converters can be integrated via the two ADAT interfaces and the Mini DigiLink ports. Flexible digital clocking is guaranteed by the Word Clock In/Out and Pro Tools’ own Loop interface, which – unlike Word Clock – ensures a stable clock signal even with a large number of devices, without the need for an external clock generator.
This Avid converter is the ideal starting point or addition for any sound studio or recording room working with Pro Tools. It delivers excellent sound quality on a par with international productions, a superb combination of hardware and software, and good expansion options – either for older equipment via the tried-and-tested ADAT connection or, for a fully modern setup, via a Dante network.
