Bastl Instruments softPop is a semi-modular analog synthesizer in desktop format. The monophonic sound is produced by two VCOs with triangle cores. The synthesizer is operated via six faders, which influence parameters such as pitch or filter strength, as well as a patch panel with 25 connection options. Despite its small size, its semi-modular design results in a multitude of different sounds, ranging from light, ambient surfaces to powerful basses. The Bastl Instruments softPop Synthesizer is also able to process external audio signals. As an extra feature, Bastl Instruments has equipped the softPop with a quantizer and a pattern generator with two memory locations. For hobbyists there is a "secret chamber" on the bottom of the synthesizer which, when opened, clears the way to change and modify the handicraft instruments softPop.
A semi-modular synthesizer has a pre-wired signal path that connects only the most important functions of the synthesizer. There is also the possibility to expand the sound spectrum with a patch field or to connect the synthesizer to other devices.
