Software Download Licenses

Key information about download licenses

Through our download portal, you can quickly access your new software and plug-ins after purchasing a download license. As soon as payment is confirmed, you will receive a license code by email that lets you download or activate your software right away. The exact process depends on the manufacturer: in some cases, the download starts from your customer account on the manufacturer’s website, followed by activation using the code we provide.

If you purchased a large sample library such as Native Instruments Komplete, a DAW like Cubase or Studio One, a powerful synthesizer like Omnisphere, or an AI-driven mastering tool like Ozone, please allow more time for the download. These content packages often comprise multiple gigabytes of data. Alternatively, you can choose a boxed version supplied on physical media, which does not require an internet connection for installation.

FAQ – Download licenses

How does a download license differ from a boxed or hardware version?

A download license is a digital version of the software that you can download and activate online immediately after purchase. It works the same as a boxed or hardware version but offers several advantages:

  • Instant access: your license code is provided right after purchase.
  • No shipping: no delivery time and no physical media to store.
  • More sustainable: no packaging or disc production.
How and where do I receive my license key after purchase?

After completing your purchase, you will receive the license key by email. It will include either:

  • an activation code to unlock the software after download, or
  • a link to the manufacturer’s website where you can register and activate the product.

Depending on the manufacturer, you may need to create a customer account or use a license manager (e.g., iLok, Steinberg Activation Manager, Native Access). All relevant information is provided in the post-purchase email.

Do I have to download the software immediately, or can I install it later?

You don’t need to download right away. The license key remains valid and can be redeemed later. Many manufacturers allow you to re-download installers at any time via your account or a download link.

Can I transfer my software license to another computer?

In most cases, yes. First deactivate the license on the previous device, then activate it on the new one. The procedure varies by manufacturer and may be handled in-app, via a license manager, or through your online account.

Do I need an internet connection to activate or use the software?

An internet connection is typically required for the initial activation to verify the license key. After that, many applications can be used offline. Some programs or plug-ins, however, require periodic online checks or cloud sign-ins. Please review the manufacturer’s licensing notes before purchasing, especially if you work without a stable connection.

Can I resell or transfer a purchased license?

This depends on the manufacturer. Many allow resale or transfer provided the license is properly deactivated and deregistered from your account. Some licenses are non-transferable, especially EDU editions or special promotions. If you plan to pass on the software later, check the policy in advance.

Are there differences between demo, EDU, and full licenses?
  • Full license: complete feature set without limitations.
  • Demo: time- or feature-limited, intended for evaluation.
  • EDU: same features as the full version, discounted for students, educators, or institutions; eligibility proof required.
